Travel to and from Cancun and the Riviera Maya uses the Cancun International Airport.

Rental Cars in Cancun Riviera Maya

A dozen rental car companies operate at the airport and at many hotel locations (including Advantage Rent-A-Car, Advant Rent-A-Car, Avis, and Budget Rent-a-Car). Note that car rental is relatively expensive, and often does not include unlimited mileage. You must be 25 years old, hold a driver's license and major credit card. Road signs are in Spanish.

Tipping Practices in Cancun Riviera Maya

Tips in Mexico are generally 15%, tipping cab drivers is not expected, and tipping the maid in the hotel a couple of dollars a day (per room) is greatly appreciated.

Weddings in Cancun Riviera Maya

There is a two day waiting period, and couples require a passport/driver's license, birth certificate, certified copies of both parents' birth certificates or valid passports, four witnesses, and blood tests not older than 15 days.

Aquatic Activities
Bordered on one side by the vast Caribbean Sea and by extensive lagoons on the other, Cancun's hotel zone is a paradise for aquatic activities. The numerous marinas offer from an entire day of fishing in the high seas to diving classes and deep-sea diving, including a visit to sharks' caves or the zones inhabited by whale sharks and sting rays.

Cancun Beaches
Cancun's beaches are famous for its white color, its fine texture and temperature, always cool regardless of the sun's strong rays. In Cancun, two beach zones can be distinguished: the first is located in the north of the hotel zone, facing Isla Mujeres and is protected by its location within the bay.Due to its calm waves, it is ideal for children and to practice aquatic activities like jet skiing, water skiing or sailing. The other beach zone is located on the eastern side of the hotel zone, facing the open sea. It is a group of spectacular beaches, with waves whose intensity varies according to the season.For your safety, hotel beaches and the marinas use colored warning flags. Before swimming, we suggest consider them.

Crococun Crocodile Park & Zoo
Located 35 km / 25 minutes south of Cancun. This ecological park covers 3 hectares and is a crocodile ranch with snakes, monkeys, deer and wild boar. Coati mundi, parrots and macaws roam free around the property, creating a wonderful experience for children and adults.

Interactive Aquarium
Located in the heart of the hotel zone in the La Isla Shopping Center, where you can enjoy a breathtaking, hands-on encounter with the marine world. Swim with the dolphins, view huge sharks, and touch manta rays and sea turtles. In the Interactive Aquarium you will see fascinating exhibits of marine life from the tidal pools to the deep ocean. You will get to see rarities such as seahorses, barracudas, tiger and bull sharks.

Cavern Dive
The Yucatan Peninsula, site of the Dos Ojos Cavern Dive, contains the most extensive system of under-water caverns and caves in the world; a place where much of this natural phenomenon is yet to be discovered!.

Aktun Chen Natural Park
This park consisting of a spectacular 5 million year-old grotto and an abundance of wildlife, is the first above-the ground cave system in the Quintana Roo State to be open to the public, the name means "cave with an underground river inside," and the main cave (of three ) is more than 600 yards long, with a magnificent vault.

Mayan Archaeological Sites
Cancun is blessed with various archaeological vestiges.There are even several archeological sites right within Cancun's hotel zone. The most frequently visited Mayan ruin sites (with the exception of Tikal in Guatemala) are all in Mexico, and can be reached by air, bus, or car from Cancun. Ruinas El Rey are located in front of Playa Delfines. Any taxi or bus on Kukulcan Boulevard can take you there easily. The visit won't take you more than an hour. It is an ideal site to relax, become familiar with Maya culture and to witness the numerous iguanas that chose these ancient temples as it's home. Found just north of Cancun, on the avenue leading to Punta Sam, is the archeological zone of El Meco. From the top of one of its pyramids - the tallest archeological structure in the north of the state - there is a breathtaking view of the Chacmochuc Lagoon, near the area known as Isla Blanca (the name is misleading since it is not an island). To get there, we suggest taking a taxi, since this site, recently open to the public, still does not receive many visitors.

Tulum
Come and visit Tulum, take a tour and take a visit to the only known walled Mayan city. Overlooking one of the most picturesque views, anywhere on this magnificent coast and then continue with a visit to Xel Ha, the world's largest natural aquarium.

Chichen Itza
Only two and a half hours away from Cancun is one of the most impressive of all Mayan ruins, Chichen Itza. Ancient and marvelous Archaeological zone, one of the most important ancient cities of Mayan Culture. As a religious, political and commercial metropolis, Chichen itza has the most amazing building as an example of architecture and art of Mayan society.

Bullfights
Bullfights are held every Wednesday at 3:30 pm. Includes folkloric dance and Charros performances. A demonstration of courage and style, combined with the most popular traditions from all over Mexico, including Folkloric Dance and a Mexican Rodeo. Come with us and cheer Ole!! Don't miss it!

Nightlife
Nights in the Mexican Caribbean are an invitation to dancing and have fun. The entertainment scene is plentiful of options, from Discos for the more active to piano bars for those in a romantic mood. Cancun offers a wide variety of Discos and Fun Bars, with an ample variety to ensure that you will find the right place to fulfill your expectations.
